International Coffee Day

International Coffee Day

International Coffee Day was declared on the first day of October by the International Coffee Organization (ICO). This day is to celebrate coffee drinking and help support coffee produced and sold according to the standards of the Fair-trade movement.

On March 37, 2014, the International Coffee Organization decided to organize the first International Coffee Day in Milan, on the occasion of the World Expo 2015. The aim is to promote coffee, coffee farmers, and fair trade conditions in the international coffee market. This day serves as an opportunity to raise awareness of the working and living conditions of coffee growers, who face low prices, increasing production costs, uncertain harvests, and the negative impacts of climate change. Various events and campaigns are organized worldwide, including discounted or free coffee, coffee festivals, workshops, lectures, and educational activities. The celebrations can range from highlighting specific coffee farmers to providing information about coffee cultivation and the origin of different types of coffee. Interesting facts about coffee are also shared, such as its discovery by Ethiopian goatherds in the 9th century and the various flavors of coffee. The Prague Coffee Festival is also mentioned as an upcoming event.
