The International Rescue Cat Day was established by Yorkshire Cat Rescue in England and its first celebration took place in 2019. The day is held at the beginning of the International Cat Rescue Awareness Month and is the perfect time to start several weeks dedicated to the special attention of sweet furry cats in need of a home and a family to take care of them. There are several ways to celebrate International Rescue Cat Day, such as considering cat adoption, contributing to an animal shelter, participating in cat rescue events, or becoming a volunteer at an animal shelter.

Day of Unplugging voll auszunutzen.

The Global Day of Unplugging, founded by the non-profit Jewish community Reboot in 2003, encourages people to disconnect from their electronic devices for 24 hours and spend time resting with family, friends, or alone. The campaign is currently run by the non-profit organization Unplug Collaborative. Celebrating this day involves simply disconnecting from the virtual world and observing the nature around us, spending time with loved ones, or taking time for self-reflection. Disconnecting can help reduce digital stress and promote mindfulness. It is important to inform others about your decision to unplug and set up automatic responses for emails and social media to avoid any negative consequences.

Crowdfunding Day helps to raise awareness about the usefulness of crowdfunding and how it has changed the lives of organizations around the world.

The history of Crowdfunding Day dates back to the 19th century when it was founded by the famous French philosopher and sociologist Auguste Comte. He introduced the sociological theory of positivism in his historical work Premiere Circulaire Annuelle addressee par lauteur du Systeme de Philosophy Positive.

Positivism refers to the relationship between theory and observation, relying on the scientific method to ensure authentic knowledge. While this abstract concept was partly founded by Comte, he used this ideology to fund his research and eventually created the first forms of crowdfunding. On this day in 1850, the philosopher published his work as the first crowdfunding success.

The term for crowdfunding and its more modern success came in 1997 when a British rock band financed their comeback through online donations from their fans. ArtistShare became the first company to create a crowdfunding platform, and the crowdfunding industry has been growing ever since.

Today, crowdfunding is a huge part of the economic success of many organizations and continues to grow. In 2015, crowdfunding campaigns globally raised a total of $34 billion, which is double the annual budget of the NASA program.

It is expected that this industry will grow to over $300 billion by 2025, so take the time to celebrate crowdfunding, one of the main ways projects you love can come to life.

How to celebrate Crowdfunding Day:
- If you appreciate what crowdfunding has done or can do for your company or nonprofit, start a crowdfunding project. Help develop your activities by reaching out to people, telling them about your visions and projects, and raising funds for them.
- Support other projects you know through crowdfunding by sending them money.
- Help crowdfunding come alive by sharing this holiday on social media using the hashtag #crowdfundingday.
- Let your friends and family know what crowdfunding is and celebrate its history by discussing the best ways to crowdfund activities and projects you love.

História Crowdfunding Day sa začala v 19. storočí, keď slávny francúzsky filozof a sociológ Auguste Comte založil crowdfundovanie.

Dams and weirs: yes or no? The importance of this question is highlighted by today's international initiative for river protection. Every year on March 14th, thousands of people around the world celebrate World Rivers Day and advocate for their preservation. The official website of the International Day of Action for Rivers states that this day is a celebration of successes such as dam removal and the gradual restoration of natural river habitats. Although not officially recognized by the United Nations, meetings, events, and demonstrations are held across continents to raise awareness about the risks associated with damming rivers and the often overlooked impacts of river regulation. The initiative was established at the first international meeting of people affected by dams, which took place in Curitiba, Brazil in March 1997. The day serves as an opportunity for people to come together, demonstrate, and demand better practices and approaches from responsible individuals. It is a day of education about the threats facing our rivers and learning about better ecological and energy solutions. Above all, it is a day to unite and remind ourselves that these issues are not just local, but a global problem. So, have you visited your favorite river today?

Every year on March 16th, we celebrate the most iconic pandas, who are a source of national pride for China. There are two subspecies of pandas: the giant black and white panda and the Qinling brown panda, a smaller subspecies discovered in 1985 in the southern province of Shaanxi in China. Giant pandas only live in remote mountainous areas of China. Since 2019, the status of pandas has been upgraded from endangered to vulnerable due to rapidly growing populations. However, there are still less than 2,000 pandas in the wild due to loss of natural habitat, farming, fur hunting, and other factors. Pandas play an important role in the ecosystem of Chinese bamboo forests by spreading seeds and cultivating new vegetation that serves humans and animals. One of the factors contributing to their endangerment is the low birth rate of pandas. With females being fertile for only two or three days a year, reproduction in the wild is more challenging for this species. There are about 27 zoos worldwide that protect and care for giant pandas and provide an environment to support their reproduction. The most important factor in preserving wild pandas is the protection of their habitat, especially bamboo forests, their main source of nutrition.

Although recycling does not directly protect the environment, it does prevent its damage. Recycling saves resources, reduces energy consumption, emissions, and water usage in the production of new items. Therefore, recycling is key to a better future for our planet and humanity as a whole.

Recycling is the process of managing waste that leads to its further use. It involves the cyclic reuse of waste and its properties as secondary raw materials in the production process. Recycling is about bringing the material back into the production cycle, transforming it from otherwise unusable waste into a secondary input material usable in further production. Recycling allows for the conservation of renewable and non-renewable resources and often reduces the burden on the environment. The main benefits of recycling are the reduction in the need for new resource extraction, the use of waste instead of landfilling, and overall environmental conservation.

Do you know that:

Recycling one ton of paper saves 17 trees.
27,000 trees are cut down every day for toilet paper production.
95% of all information in the world is stored on paper, most of which is never reused.
Recycling a plastic bottle can save material for the production of, for example, carpets or fleece clothing.
Americans throw away 25 million plastic bottles every hour. Each bottle takes 500 years to decompose.
Thousands of marine animals die from ingesting plastic bags that resemble jellyfish.
Every year, Americans throw away enough aluminum cans to reach the Moon and back 20 times.
Recycling one ton of plastics can save up to 757 hectoliters of gasoline.
Since 2015, all residents of New York must recycle electronics, otherwise they face a $100 fine.
Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy for 2 hours of TV viewing.
6 trillion kilograms of waste is dumped into the oceans every year.
In Finland, 90% of plastic bottles are returned for recycling, and almost 100% of glass bottles.
After recycling, it takes about 60 days for a can to return to the store.
In Germany, there is recycling of deceased pets.
Paper recycling was first recorded in Japan in 1031.
90% of plastic bags in the USA are not recycled.
Recycling the Sunday edition of the New York Times would save 75,000 trees.

Výhody recyklácie zahŕňajú nižšiu spotrebu surovín, zníženie emisií a ochranu životného prostredia.

Obnova divočiny pomáhá stabilizovat klima a zabraňuje vymírání druhů.

Was ist Rewilding?

What is Rewilding?

Rewilding is the process of helping nature heal itself. It involves allowing natural processes to restore damaged ecosystems, regenerate degraded landscapes, and create more biodiverse habitats. Rewilding aims to preserve the remaining untouched natural areas on Earth and restore life in adjacent areas. It requires a long-term perspective and natural solutions to environmental, social, and economic challenges. Rewilding benefits not only natural places but also the people who live in them.

Why Rewild?

1. Restoring wilderness to stabilize the climate: Restoring forests, wetlands, peatlands, and oceans increases the ability to store carbon in plants and soil, mitigating catastrophic natural disasters. Healthy wildlife populations can enhance the Earth's carbon storage capacity by up to 125 times, removing more than one-third of excess carbon from our atmosphere.

2. Rewilding to prevent species extinction: There have been five well-known mass extinction events in Earth's history, and scientists believe we are now entering the sixth, which is a hundred times faster due to human activities. Reports show that at least 1 million plant and animal species are facing extinction within decades. Restoring biodiversity is crucial for maintaining life on Earth and can be achieved through rewilding.

3. Rewilding as an investment in business: Sustainable and ethical businesses rely on nature to provide healthy products that benefit consumers, communities, and the planet itself. The growing level of consumer awareness demonstrates that rewilding is not only better for the planet but also for business. It provides the stability and wealth needed for a healthy market.

4. Survival for people: People depend on nature and species for their food, water, medicine, and economic opportunities. Rewilding helps ensure food and water for every table worldwide. Nature restoration also improves economic stability in rural communities and brings new life to areas and people.

5. Rewilding gives back: The most important relationship in society is with nature. Many countries use various species as their national symbols, but unfortunately, many of these species are endangered. Nature has supported, nurtured, and inspired people throughout our history. It is time to return the favor.

Rewilding Europe:

Within this movement, many great and inspiring initiatives have developed over the past few decades, and new projects continue to emerge across the continent. The pioneering European Rewilding Network (ERN) aims to bring these initiatives together and provide each network member with information and tools to be more successful in their efforts. It creates a living network of countless rewilding initiatives, supports them, and facilitates the adoption of best rewilding practices and methods.

Obnova divočiny pomáhá stabilizovat klima a snižovat riziko přírodních katastrof. Rewilding také přispívá k ochraně ohrožených druhů a udržení biologické rozmanitosti. Investice do rewildingu podporuje udržitelné a etické podnikání a zvyšuje ekonomickou stabilitu venkovských komunit.

The World Frog Day, celebrated since 2009, aims to save various frog species from extinction. Frogs are tailless amphibians that have been around for almost 256 million years. There are approximately 6,000 known frog species, with 4,800 recorded species found worldwide except in Antarctica. However, in the last decade, about 170 frog species have become extinct due to human activities and fungal infections. The decline in frog populations has been significant since the 1950s, with about a third of the world's species critically endangered. The World Frog Day has become the largest day for amphibian conservation, with people and organizations focusing on the global decline of amphibians. Biologists worldwide are actively researching the causes and solutions to these problems. Frogs have a wide range of sizes, from the giant Goliath frog, which can grow up to 30 cm long and weigh 3 kg, to the smallest known frog species, the Paedophryne amauensis, which measures only 7 mm. Frogs have excellent night vision and can see forward, sideways, and partially backward. Many frog species can jump more than 20 times their body length. Poisonous frog species are often brightly colored to warn predators of their toxic skin. Some fascinating frog species include the wood frog, which can survive with 65% of its body frozen, and the moor frog, which turns blue during breeding season. Female frogs sometimes play dead to avoid mating.

Mnoho ochranárskych biológov pracuje na hľadaní a pochopení príčin týchto problémov a spôsobov ich riešenia. Žaby majú vynikajúce nočné videnie a mnoho druhov dokáže doskočiť viac než 20-násobok svojej dĺžky. Jedovaté druhy žiab sú často výrazne zafarbené a upozorňujú predátora na jedovatosť svojej kože.

V České republice dochází k dramatickému snižování populace vrabců domácích a vrabců polních.

The population of sparrows is dramatically decreasing worldwide, including in the Czech Republic, where the numbers of house sparrows and tree sparrows have decreased by millions in recent decades. The decline can be attributed to various factors, such as changes in agricultural practices leading to food scarcity, loss of nesting opportunities due to insulation methods in buildings, and changes in urban greenery. The intensification of agriculture also affects the population of tree sparrows by reducing their food sources. The World Sparrow Day is an official event dedicated to raising awareness about the declining sparrow population. House sparrows are larger and predominantly live near human settlements, while tree sparrows are more associated with agricultural landscapes. Both species have distinct coloration patterns. The male house sparrow has dark brown wings, a grey head, and a black bib, while the female is light brown. Tree sparrows have a chestnut-brown head and a black spot on their white cheeks.

Populace vrabců v České republice dramaticky klesá, a to z důvodu nedostatku potravy, ztráty hnízdních možností a změn v zemědělství.

Nejaktivnějšími zeměmi byly Francie, Belgie a Tchajwan.

In the digital world, just like in the environment, there is a huge amount of waste. Unnecessary emails, files, duplicates of photos and videos are all digital waste. This waste creates digital pollution, which continues to consume energy even when we forget about it. Every year, the internet and its supporting systems produce 900 million tons of CO2, which is more than the annual production of the entire Germany.

In 2022, people and organizations in 133 countries participated in digital cleanup from March 20th to April 22nd. A total of 2,733,264 GB of data was deleted and 683 tons of CO2 emissions were prevented. For example, this amount of CO2 production is equivalent to 2,732 one-hour flights or 56 million km by car. It is also equivalent to 114 million hours of mobile phone calls. The most active countries were France, Belgium, and Taiwan.

Join this year's Digital Cleanup Day on March 18th, 2023. You can sign up for the campaign and learn more about digital waste at www.digitalcleanupday.org.

The World Planting Day is celebrated on March 21st, encouraging people to plant trees and engage in gardening activities. It originated as part of the "Let's Plant the Planet" campaign in 2007, with the goal of planting one million trees in Germany. Since then, it has spread worldwide, with over 15 billion trees planted to date. The day is not only about planting trees but also about promoting sustainable gardening practices. People can create their own vegetable gardens, join community gardens, or participate in tree planting initiatives. The Progresus Invest Holding group, which specializes in real estate development, is the patron of the World Planting Day. They support sustainable forestry practices by annually planting 80,000 new seedlings in collaboration with the Czech Forestry Academy. Additionally, the EKOkalendář calendar provides information about various environmental holidays and offers daily eco-tips.

Jedes Jahr gehen weltweit etwa 10 Millionen Hektar Wald verloren.

Forests are crucial for sustainable development, covering one-third of the Earth's surface and providing a high level of biodiversity and ecosystem services. They also provide essential goods and services to humans, such as food, water, shelter, and recreation, and play a significant role in carbon storage. However, global deforestation continues at an alarming pace. The theme for the International Day of Forests in 2023 is "Forests and Health," highlighting the many benefits forests provide for our well-being. To celebrate this day, people are encouraged to participate in events such as tree planting, symposiums, art exhibitions, and photo contests, and to share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #IntlForestDay. It is important to protect these valuable natural resources, as healthy forests lead to healthy people.

Veřejné zdraví a prosperita, potravinové a energetické systémy, ekonomická produktivita a ekologická integrita - to vše závisí na dobře fungujícím a spravedlivě řízeném vodním cyklu.

Water can create peace or create conflict. When water is scarce or polluted, or when people have unequal or no access, tensions can rise between communities and countries. More than 3 billion people worldwide depend on water that crosses national borders. But only 24 countries have cooperative agreements for all shared water. With the growing impacts of climate change and a growing population, there is an urgent need within and between countries to unite to protect and conserve our most precious resource. Public health and prosperity, food and energy systems, economic productivity and ecological integrity all depend on a well-functioning and equitably managed water cycle.

The United Nations General Assembly formally recognized the importance of zero waste initiatives and declared March 30th as International Zero Waste Day, to be celebrated annually starting in 2023. Zero waste initiatives can promote proper waste management, minimize waste generation, reduce pollution, mitigate the climate crisis, preserve biodiversity, enhance food security, and improve human health. The United Nations Environment Programme and UN-Habitat will support the observance of this day, and all UN member states and relevant stakeholders have been urged to implement zero waste initiatives at the local, regional, and national levels.
